Requirements

On this page you will find information on the requirements that must be met in order to undertake an Erasmus+ International study visit outside of Europe:


Target group

Who can apply?

Students of the University of Vienna who, at the time of applying,

  • are enrolled in a Bachelor or a diploma Programme in a field of study relevant to the application and have successfully completed the STEOP exams as well as two Semesters of studying. 
  • have been admitted to study for master’s or a PhD in a field of study relevant to the application
  • have successfully completed the presentation of the doctoral thesis project at the faculty (only applies to PhD students)
  • have not exceeded the maximum duration of 12 months of mobility in the current study cycle. Erasmus+ study visits and traineeships which have already been completed must be subtracted from your 12 month quota.
  • have not yet completed their studies
  • have not exceeded the minimum duration plus a maximum of four additional semesters
  • fulfil the language requirements

Application deadline

  • March 12th (for an exchange in the winter semester)
  • October 15th (for an exchange in the summer semester)

Unfortunately, applications received after this date cannot be considered!

  • Language certificates accepted

    We accept the following as proof of language skills:

    • Philologies: the transcript of records (except universities with TOEFL/IELTS)
    • Other fields of study: Certified language test or language certificate: min. level B2 (e.g. certificate from the Language Centre of the University of Vienna

    The following are not accepted as language certificates: high school diplomas or school reports (e.g. "University entrance examination in English"; confirmation of attending a school, exchange year, etc.); currently taking or having completed a philological degree; currently studying or having completed a Translation Studies degree; citizenship; certificate of participation for a language course.

    The OEAD (Austrian educational exchange service) offers the internet-based TOEFL test, as well as preparatory sessions and test simulations (at cost price); the British Council offers the IELTS test.

    The Language Center of the University of Vienna also offers language competency tests which can be accepted as proof of language skills. 

    PLEASE NOTE: Unlike the classic Erasmus+ programme within Europe, a refund of the cost of the language test is not available within the Erasmus+ International Mobility programme.


Criteria for selection

  • Language and academic qualifications of candidates for undertaking a research visit abroad. Written proof required (transcripts, TOEFL/language certificates, letter of recommendation)!
  • Type and aims of the proposed research/study visit abroad ( statement of purpose or research plan)
  • Academic record to date (duration and grades)
  • In the case of positions offered for MA or PhD students, preference will be given to PhD candidates in allocating the places
  • Quality of the personal interview with the selection panel
