In the case of applications in English-speaking countries, only two language certificates are accepted as proof of proficiency:

    • TOEFL iBT: min. 90 out of 120 Points
    • IELTS Academic: min. 6.5 out of 9 points (6.5 overall band, 6.0 writing)

Please note that some universities may require higher scores or have minimum requirements regarding scores for each skill (reading, listening, writing, speaking). To find out more, please consult our partner universities' websites or have a look at the Portal of Mobility Online where you find specific information about the agreements of the University of Vienna. Please note that not all partner universities accept the TOEFL iBT Home Edition.

The TOEFL or IELTS score requirements of at least one university the student applied for must be achieved in order to be invited to an interview with the selection panel.

The OeAD (Austrian educational exchange service) provides an internet-based TOEFL (iBT) test, as well as preparatory courses and text simulations. The British Council offers the IELTS test.

In order to have your TOEFL certificate sent directly to the International Office, please notify your TOEFL centre of the Code-Nummer 7076.
