University of Chicago
University of Chicago
The University of Chicago is one of the most prestigious universities in the US. Academic staff at the University of Chicago have undertaken pioneering work in the field of sociology, developed hormone therapies for the treatment of cancer, postulated the existence of black holes, discovered new species of dinosaurs and changed the face of economics. Today around 17,000 students are studying at the university’s more than 140 institutes and centres.
The university is a central strategic partner in an area on which we have a particular focus, North America. Similar areas of interest in research and tried and tested research contacts between the University of Vienna and the University of Chicago provide numerous points of reference for intensive collaboration, which has been continuously intensified and extended through a strategic partnership since 2016. Most collaborations occur in the natural sciences (e.g. with the Enrico Fermi Institute and the Microbiome Center) and in the social sciences and the humanities (e.g. with the Cátedra Katz Center for Mexican Studies or through the Ferdinand Stern Civilization Program and the Vienna Human Rights Program for students at the University of Vienna and the University of Chicago).
At present, students, researchers, teaching staff and the general staff of both universities have the opportunity to participate in mobility programmes or to undertake bilateral research projects as a result of the strategic partnership:
