Joint Grant Programs

The University of Vienna and its strategic partners aim to expand and strengthen their scientific collaboration. This includes the implementation of joint seminars/workshops/teaching activities, where faculty members of both institutions meet, present their work and engage in a dialogue.


HUJI - UNIVIE Joint Seminar Call 2024

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) and the University of Vienna (UNIVIE) aim to further expand common research interests at both universities and to strengthen existing networks. In the framework of their Strategic Partnership, the universities are pleased to announce the launch of a call for Joint Seminars.

The call is open to applicants from all disciplines with the exception of Austrian Studies.

Funding

In this call, a minimum of two projects will be funded. The maximum funding per project is 4.000 EUR.

The grant is designed to fund networking events taking place either in Jerusalem or Vienna. During these events faculty members of both institutions meet, present their work and engage in a dialogue with the aim to:

  • consolidate and extend existing collaboration and/or
  • discuss future collaborations and/or
  • facilitate and coordinate joint submissions to funding agencies

 

Timeline

  • Submission deadline: 17 December 2024
  • Selection decision: January 2025
  • Implementation period: February 2025 - October 2025

Applicants and Application Process

Applications have to be submitted jointly by at least one faculty member (minimum: tenure track) from each of the two universities. The application should be submitted as one pdf file to the respective academic coordinators of both institutions:

The proposal should include:

  • Short outline of the planned seminar (up to 1 page)
  • Proposed outcome and future activities, particularly submissions of joint research proposals to external funding agencies (up to 1 page)
  • Tentative dates of the Joint Seminar
  • List of participants (max. 4 per institution including applicants). We encourage the participation of early-stage researchers and/or PhD student
  • Tentative budget

Chicago - Vienna International Grant Program 2024

The University of Chicago and the University of Vienna aim to expand and strengthen their scientific collaboration. To accomplish this goal, the Chicago - Vienna International Grant Program has been set up. 

The grant program is designed to support University of Vienna and University of Chicago faculty to organize and implement joint projects (e.g. joint seminars or workshops). Eligible faculty members may apply for funding in an amount up to US$ 12,500.

Project proposals are strongly encouraged to have a public component, such as a talk or culminating event, to discuss avenues to build up joint research collaborations, to lead to a joint publication and/or to a joint submission to external funding agencies.

The joint projects 2024 may take place at the University of Chicago, the University of Vienna, or, for the first time, at the University of Chicago John W. Boyer Center in Paris

KU - UNIVIE Joint Grant Program 2023

Kyoto University (KU) and the University of Vienna (UNIVIE) aim to further expand and strengthen
cooperation in the framework of their Strategic Partnership established in 2019. In striving to achieve
this goal, the universities are pleased to announce the grant program for joint projects to support
collaborations in research and education between their faculty members in all academic disciplines.

The grant program seeks to support scientists from both institutions to either deepen and broaden
ongoing collaboration, or to initiate new cooperation projects. Priority will be given to providing
support for new projects.

Funding

In this call we expect to fund approximately six projects. The total funding amount per project is up to EUR 8,000 / JPY 1,150,000.

The grant is designed to support faculty members of KU und UNIVIE in pursuing joint activities such as:

  • Intensive research workshops, conferences, roundtables, and symposia
  • Mobility for joint research and meetings
  • The development of joint (PhD) education activities, such as short term programs (e.g. summer/winter schools), seminars and colloquia
  • Joint publications

  • Travel expenses
  • Accommodation costs
  • Catering costs (for in-person activities only)
  • Venue rental fees
  • Costs for student assistants
  • Shipment costs
  • Publishing costs

Applicants

Applications should be jointly submitted by one full‐time senior faculty member from each institution

who act as project coordinators. It is expected that the joint project involves additional researchers from both universities. Participation of early career researchers is encouraged. For details please see project call.

Proposals for the KU‐UNIVIE grant program should be submitted by one of the project coordinators at

KU or UNIVIE. Please send your proposal as a single PDF file by email to Ms. Janna Kazim (janna.kazim@univie.ac.at). The application has to be submitted in English and has to include:

2. CVs of each Project Coordinator (within 2 pages per CV)

 


HUJI - UNIVIE Joint Research Grant 2023

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) and the University of Vienna (UNIVIE) aim to support their researchers in consolidating and expanding existing collaborations between the two universities, as well as initiating new networks. Therefore, the universities are pleased to announce a new call for Joint Seminars within the framework of their Strategic Partnership established in 2015.

The call is open to applicants from all disciplines except Austrian Studies.

Funding

In this call, up to two (2) projects will be funded. The maximum funding per project is 20.000 EUR.

The grant is designed to support faculty members of HUJI und UNIVIE in pursuing a joint research project by funding:

  • Travel expenses and subsistence costs
  • Material costs (e.g. consumables) and costs for equipment/infrastructure (e.g. rent for research equipment) necessary for the implementation of the research project (except basic equipment such as computers).ct

At UNIVIE personnel costs are not eligible for funding. At HUJI (partial) scholarships for advanced students would be eligible for funding.

Applicants and Application Process

Applications are submitted jointly by one researcher (faculty member) from each of the two universities who act as the two principal investigators (PI). The PIs share a common, innovative research interest and wish to pursue a joint research project. It is an advantage (but not a must) if other scholars from both universities, both from the respective research groups and interdisciplinary, participate in the project. Participation of PhD students is possible and encouraged.
