Erasmus+ Short-Term PhD Mobility

Erasmus+ Short-Term PhD Mobility

The University of Vienna welcomes incoming PhD students for short-term stays (5 to 30 days) under the Erasmus+ programme. If you are interested in a stay under this funding option, please contact the International Office of your home university first to check whether your university funds such mobilities at all.

Additional information for International Offices of the sending university

The University of Vienna only accepts stays that are processed via the funding option "Short-Term Erasmus+ Traineeships". For this, neither Online Learning Agreements, a study admission at the University of Vienna nor Inter Institutional Agreements are required. Please note that the Inter Institutional Agreements are not concluded for Short-Term PhD Mobility without exception.

In order to apply at the University of Vienna, you need an approval from your home university as well as a confirmation from the head of the doctoral school (DSPL) at the University of Vienna corresponding to your academic field. Both have to be submitted together with your own signature on the Learning Agreement for Traineeship (= application form). You can find the application form and a list of the doctoral school programme directors in the download section on the right side of the page.

For formal reasons we ask you to state your private address in the Learning Agreement for Traineeship!

After these three signatures have been made, the Learning Agreement for Traineeship must also be signed by the Head of the International Office of the University of Vienna. For this purpose, the agreement must be sent by e-mail to erasmus.phd@univie.ac.at at least 4 weeks before the start of the mobility.

Please note: It is the applicant's responsibility to take care of an insurance cover for the duration of the stay (travel, health, accident, liability insurance). In any case, please submit a confirmation of sufficient health, accident, and liability insurance coverage for the period of your stay at the University of Vienna. A confirmation from your home university about corresponding insurance benefits is sufficient.

The confirmation must be sent together with the Learning Agreement to erasmus.phd@univie.ac.at.

Application deadlines

Applications to the University of Vienna are possible at any time. However, there may be application deadlines at your home university.
