Circle U. is inviting PhD students from any discipline with an interest for the health field, to apply for the summer school on "Rethinking Global Health", hosted by Université Paris Cité from 3 to 7 July.

  • Target group: PhD students including postgraduate medical doctor students (MD) from any discipline with an interest for the health field
  • ECTS: No ECTS. A certificate of completion including the number of hours validated will be issued to participants.
  • Costs: Free of charge with a travel grant. The University of Vienna will fund the rates of 70 €/ day (max. 7 days) and travel costs which will be calculated according to distance (Erasmus+ Distance Calculator). Additional top ups for green travel and/or inclusion may apply.

Course description

Designed for PhD students from any discipline with an interest for the health field, the Summer School will offer a unique learning environment while gaining insight into a wide range of topics such as health inequalities from an individual to a global perspective, distribution of healthcare resources, migrations, gender roles in health, and the transition from colonial medicine to planetary health.

Combining lectures, active learning, group work and dilemma-based approaches, you will reflect on global health challenges while developing a critical mind-set. Excursions in and around Paris will provide the opportunity to connect with leading professors, clinicians and build networks with European peers. Through interdisciplinary approaches and innovative thinking, you will increase your understanding of key aspects of global health engaging with a team of cross-disciplinary scholars from all around the world.

During the Summer School, you will gain understanding of how your research interacts with global health issues, enhance your ability to think creatively and innovatively and attend and engage with thought-provoking senior academics. Participants are expected to actively contribute in the discussions, present their your work to the audience and lead with other participants some of the controversy sessions.
