Selection criteria

  • Necessity of a stay abroad in view of the degree course taken at the University of Vienna (doctoral/PhD programme, diploma/master’s programme). No grants for projects!
  • Nature and aims of the proposed research stay abroad (detailed research proposal)
  • Practicability of the plan abroad and preliminary work performed (written letter of endorsement from the proposed host Institution, confirmation of permission to access  archives, libraries, written confirmation of feasibility of proposed fieldwork, etc.).
  • Study achievements to date (duration and grades)
  • Language and scientific qualifications of candidates for a research stay abroad. Written proof (transcripts, language certificates, etc.) required.

In cases where there are several equally qualified applicants, applications for participation in an already existing research cooperation will be given preferential treatment.

The University of Vienna wants to achieve a percentage of female scholarship students that equals the overall percentage of female students at the university. Until this goal has been achieved, women students will be given preferential treatment over equally qualified male candidates.
