Which documents do I need for the application?
  • Application form with a passport photograph
  • Curriculum vitae / résumé
  • Statement of purpose: please write a 1 page essay for each partner university stating the reasons why you want to study at this specific university. Be specific in relating the reasons to your past and present academic and extra-curricular experiences and your goals in the future.
  • for PhD and Master students in their final phase: detailed description of research proposal with current status of thesis included
  • Study Plan: list 4 to 5 courses for each university you listed (the number and the title of the courses is sufficient). Please use a separate paper for each University!
  • for PhD students only:1 formless Letter of Recommendation written in English by your scientific supervisor and 1 Letter of Support issued by your host-university
  • for MA and Diploma students only: 1 formless Letter of recommendation written in English: In case you are conducting research at the partner university, you have to hand in a letter of recommendation written by your scientific supervisor. In case you are attending courses for graduates without doing research, we require one recommendation letter written by one of your professors.
  • Transcript of records: “Sammelzeugnis” in German
  • Copy of diploma examination certificate (Diplom, Bachelor, Master), if applicable
  • Proof of required language skills (see language requirements).
  • Copy of ID

All documents must be submitted in English as a hard copy and by e-mail (PDF) to the International Office, by the deadline.

Selection criteria
  • Language and scientific qualifications of the candidates for the study/research abroad. Written proof required (transcripts, TOEFL/language certificate, letter of recommendation)!
  • Type and aims of the proposed study/research period abroad (statement of purpose, research proposal)
  • Academic record (duration and grades)
  • Quality of the personal interview with the selection panel
