On 7 February 2022, Jean-Robert Tyran, Vice-Rector for Research and International Affairs, paid a successful visit to the University of Belgrade. The aim was to discuss new cooperation opportunities within the framework of the European University Alliance Circle U. and to deepen the cooperation between the two universities in this context.

In the Circle U. alliance, the Universities of Vienna and Belgrade work together with seven other European universities to develop initiatives for didactic innovation, interdisciplinary research cooperation and societal engagement.

Against this background, Vice-Rector Tyran exchanged views with Rector Vladan Đokić and Vice-Rectors Branislav Boričić and Ratko Ristić, as well as colleagues from the Department for International Cooperation. In addition to valuable discussions about the Serbian and Austrian higher education landscapes, the meeting focused on increased cooperation within Circle U., for example in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation. The three thematic priorities of Circle U. – Climate Change, Democracy and Global Health – were also addressed.

Afterwards, Vice-Rector Tyran had the opportunity to visit the Faculty of Economics at the University of Belgrade and to meet Dean Žaklina Stojanović.

The University of Vienna is looking forward to future cooperation with the University of Belgrade.
