All about your Learning Agreement

The Learning Agreement for Erasmus+ is the main and most important document of your Erasmus+ stay. It has three parts (Learning Agreement before/during/after the Mobility) and can be downloaded here.

It consists of three parts:

Learning Agreement before the Mobility

The Learning Agreement before the Mobility is for informing your host university about the courses you are planning to take. At the same time, your directorate of studies (SPL) signs this part of the LA to confirm which courses will be recognized within your study program in Vienna. The LA before the Mobility has to be signed by all three parties (student, directorate of studies, host university). Please keep in mind that the minimum requirement in order to receive the Erasmus+ grant or Top-Up is to get 3 ECTS per month of Erasmus+ stay recognized at the University of Vienna. For that matter, it is not important how many credits you get at the host university; only the credits recognized at the University of Vienna count. Please note, that your host university may have different requirements of the amount of ECTS credits (e.g. minimum requirement of a certain ECTS number or maximum amount of courses).

Deadlines: when handing in your Erasmus+ documents at the International Office of the University of Vienna, you must also hand in the Learning Agreement signed by your directorate of studies (and, if possible, also by the host university). The host university has to sign your “Learning Agreement before the Mobility” before the beginning of your stay. Please provide the International Office with a copy of your LA as soon as it is signed by all three parties.

Learning Agreement during the Mobility

The Learning Agreement during the Mobility allows you to change your initial Learning Agreement. You can add and/or delete courses. Please have the changes signed by your host university and confirm the changes with your directorate of studies (in order to make sure that the courses can be recognized at the University of Vienna). Please provide the International Office with a copy of your (new) LA as soon as it is signed by all three parties. In case your directorate of studies confirms the changes only by email (without signing the LA) please forward the email to the International Office (erasmus.outgoing@univie.ac.at). The same procedure applies if you are extending your stay and need to add courses for the 2nd semester to your LA.

Deadlines: If there are any changes to be made to the LA, it is advisable to confirm them with your directorate of studies as soon as possible (5 weeks after the beginning of the semester at the latest), leaving you enough time to find new courses in case there is any problem with the recognition.

Learning Agreement after the Mobility

The Learning Agreement after the Mobility together with the Transcript of Records (issued by your host university) is the application form for the recognition of the courses you took abroad. In order to get your credits recognized, you have to hand in both documents to your directorate of studies. After getting your credits recognized, please submit a copy of the signed “Learning Agreement after the Mobility”, as well as a copy of your Transcript of Records, to the International Office.

Deadlines: please make sure the recognition is completed AND provide the International Office with a copy of you LA after the mobility and your Transcript of Records within 2 months after the official end of your Erasmus+ stay. If your stay lasted until end of June or later (summer term), the deadline will be November 15th (following winter term).
