Accommodation for Students

The University of Vienna does not run any own student halls of residence. Students are therefore responsible by themselves to organise the accommodation for their stay in Vienna. We strongly recommend starting to search for accommodation, especially if you are going to stay in a hall of residence, as soon as possible

On this page you find detailed information on:

You can generally choose between two types of accommodation, a place in a hall of residence and private accommodation.

Please note that the International Office does only provide information here. Neither do we mediate between landlords and tenants, nor do we accept liability.

Please be very careful in case you are asked by landlords in Austria to transfer rents or deposits in advance to a foreign bank account in order to get your key. This might be attempted fraud! The global housing platform HousingAnywhere.com offers a safe and secure booking system which can prevent this kind of scam.

Key delivery

Please check out with your landlord or your hall of residence how the key delivery will be arranged. The terms and conditions often vary, particularly in halls of residence.

Additional service "iHouse"
The fee-based service "iHouse" offers different "Student Welcome Services", among them the possibility to collect the key (24h) either in the city centre or also to pick you up at the airport and drive you to your hall of residence. "iHouse" will charge you for any services you might want to use.

Further possibilities

Should you just be looking for accommodation for a few days (as you might not be able to move into a booked room right after your arrival), youth hostels might be a possibility. Most youth hostels have breakfast and sheets included in their prices, you must, however bring towels with you. There are, amongst others, these youth hostels in Vienna:
