Arrival in Vienna

We recommend you to arrive in Vienna in the second half of September for the winter semester and in the second half of February for the summer semester, in order to give you enough time to find your way around.

The winter- term starts on October 1st, the summer term on March 1st. Places in the student halls of residence will be available from the beginning of the month. If you arrive later, you might miss the possibility to register for important introductory sessions for courses!

Attending a preparatory German language course prior to the semester start or receiving your student ID card on time can also be important aspects for your planning. (For details click: "Language requirements")

Please keep in mind, however, that you will miss the important introductory course sessions where the course instructors provide significant information on the course such as compulsory presentations, seminar papers or exams. Should you miss the first session of courses where you had to register for, you must inform the respective course instructors about your absence IN ADVANCE; otherwise, you will lose your spot in the course!

One of the first things to do in Vienna will be to register your residence within three days of your arrival at a Municipal District Office.
